SUMMER INTERN: Energy Engineer, Decarbonization – Boston

New Ecology, Inc. is seeking candidates for the role of Decarbonization Energy Engineer Intern/Co-op in its Boston office. The Intern/Co-op will work full-time to support the engineering team at New Ecology. This is a small cross-functional team that primarily performs building energy audits, analyzes data, prepares decarbonization scopes of work and predicts energy savings. This position will provide an excellent introduction and ongoing skill development for decarbonization of buildings and more generally for building science, sustainable energy, modeling techniques, and analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support energy audit and data analysis work
• Perform decarbonization calculations with spreadsheet tools
• Develop building geometry from CAD and other types of files for import to calculation tools
• Attend site audits and collect data in the field
• Assist in developing recommendations for energy efficient upgrades to the building envelope and systems, including plumbing, HVAC, lighting, on-site generation, and other energy and water systems;
• Assist in writing audit reports; and
• Assist in conducting quality control inspections of in process and completed projects.

Qualifications:
Desired Qualifications include:
• Interest in building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and envelope building systems
• Strong writing skills
• Physical abilities to inspect all aspects of buildings including accessing basements and roofs, working outside, climbing stairs/ladders.
• Basic use of 2D or 3D drawing/design software such as Autocad, Revit, or Sketchup
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
The successful candidate will have or be working on a degree in a related field such as mechanical or facilities engineering, and will have some experience performing research, analysis, and reporting. A demonstrated ability to be responsible for projects, to work independently, and to improve the efficiency of methods is expected.

Schedule:
This full-time (40 hours per week) three-month position.

Travel:
Though most of the data analysis will be done on computers in an office setting, we would like the intern to accompany our staff on some site audits (typically located in greater Boston). Milage reimbursement is available.
