Ching-Wen Hsiao – Senior Building Energy Modeling Analyst, LEED AP BD+C

Mr. Hsiao joined New Ecology in September 2015 as an Energy Modeler and was promoted to Senior Building Energy Modeling Analyst in 2022. As a graduate from Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD), Mr. Hsiao received his Master‘s degree in Energy and Environment in 2015. He also holds a Master of Architecture and Historic Preservation from Taipei National University of the Arts and a Bachelor of Science from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. At Harvard, Mr. Hsiao developed professional skills in energy simulation, CFD simulation, daylighting simulation, and sustainability. During his time at GSD, Mr. Hsiao applied his skills as a research assistant at the Harvard Center for Green Buildings and Cities on a net-zero energy housing project. He conducted energy simulation in EnergyPlus and daylighting simulation in DIVA for Rhino to assess various design iterations. Mr. Hsiao’s thesis further expanded boundaries of energy analysis to an urban scale by coupling ENVI-met, EnergyPlus, and data prediction algorithms. In addition to school curriculum, Mr. Hsiao contributed his knowledge in sustainability and energy simulation to the Harvard community by participating Harvard’s Council of Student Sustainability Leaders (CSSL) and organizing events at GSD’s High Performance Design Group. Prior to his study at Harvard, Mr. Hsiao worked as an architectural design professional in Taipei, with extended architectural design experience in urban regeneration projects, residential towers, hotels, and museums. Mr. Hsiao also taught design theories and history as an adjunct lecturer at the Department of Architecture in National Taipei University of Technology. With background in architecture and building science, Mr. Hsiao is passionate about the integration of energy efficiency, high performance building design, and sustainability.
