New Ecology seeks a Senior Energy Auditor to provide technical and project administrative support to projects in residential single family energy efficiency programs operated within New Ecology’s Existing Building Decarbonization team, primarily across the greater Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, DE areas. This includes evaluating existing buildings to improve their performance, scoping upgrades and full retrofits of existing heating, cooling, ventilation and hot water systems, and performing inspections to ensure work is completed to specification. The Senior Energy Auditor, who will be based in New Ecology’s Wilmington, DE office and working regionally, also supports the Engineering team with field visits and installations related to individual projects across New Ecology’s Mid-Atlantic region (from Washington, DC through central Pennsylvania) as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this position will collaborate extensively with engineers, project managers and other technical staff within New Ecology’s Decarbonization team. Specific tasks may include but are not limited to:

Residential Single Family Energy Efficiency Program Technical and Administrative Support 

  • Conducting energy audits for residential properties, including on-site assessment of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems and building enclosures;

  • Developing recommendations for energy efficient upgrades to systems, including plumbing, HVAC, lighting, on-site generation, and other energy and water systems;

  • Conducting quality control inspections of in process and completed projects;

  • Communicating, verbally and in writing, with New Ecology staff, bidding and installation contractors, building facility staff and residents;

  • Representing New Ecology at meetings and on site-visits;

  • Generating audit and inspection reports;

  • Managing a large volume of projects and associated documentation to ensure that the scoped and completed work is to specification; 

  • Using modeling tools and auditing software to determine load, projected savings, and solar potential; and

  • Other tasks as the program requirements evolve.

Required Qualifications:

  • Building Performance Institute (BPI) certifications relevant to energy auditing, resiliency, and health and safety evaluation of single-family homes, such as Building Analyst certificate or an equivalent certification;

  • 3 years of experience in single-family home evaluation, inspection, construction, or delivery of other energy services;

  • Ability to be in the field independently and regularly, up to 3 days per week;

  • Ability to work in New Ecology’s office during scheduled in-person team times, typically 2 days per week;

  • Physical abilities to inspect all aspects of buildings including accessing basements and roofs, working outside, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to handle and carry equipment.

  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to drive to sites within Greater Philadelphia and across the state of Delaware; and

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field, such as engineering, construction or HVAC;

  • An advanced Building Performance Institute (BPI) certificate, such as an Energy Auditor or Healthy Home Evaluator certificate, or equivalent;

  • Experience with Hancock Software and DOE Weatherization Assistance Program reporting requirements;

  • Understanding of building science principles and energy conservation methods

  • Ability to manage time effectively and within project budget constraints;

  • Ability to be responsible for projects and deliverables;

  • Strong writing skills and experience writing reports for clients;

  • Knowledge of federal and/or  Delaware and Pennsylvania utility rebate programs; and

  • 5+ years of eExperience auditing both single-family and multi-family homes.

Schedule: Full-time exempt (40 hours per week, M-F, 9 am-5 pm)

Work Location: Position is based in Wilmington, DE and serves initiatives from greater Philadelphia through Washington, D.C. Physical presence at the Wilmington, DE office is required two (2) days per week, with additional local and regional travel expected weekly. 

Travel: Candidate will have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, as routine local and regional travel to visit jobsites within the region is expected, with mileage reimbursements supplied. All staff make occasional day and overnight trips to professional conferences and to New Ecology’s offices in Baltimore, MD and/or Boston, MA.

Compensation:$63,000-$84,000, based on experience.
The full potential range for this role is $63,000–$105,000, with typical hires within the lower half and strong potential for performance-based growth.
